Your baby is getting bigger and starting to move around. Your baby’s cloth diapers are going to start fitting differently as he/she is losing baby fat and gaining muscles to aid in crawling, standing and walking. Not to mention diaper change times may not be as easily welcomed as before. Baby doesn’t want to sit still while mama fusses with a diaper change.
Here are a few helpful pointers for diapering your busy toddler:
~Be Ready: Have everything you need ready to go, before making baby be still. Make sure you have wipes handy, the diaper you are going to use ready to go (in other words, if you are using a pocket diaper, make sure it is already stuffed, if you are using a prefold, make sure its mostly folded, with the cover nearby, etc).
~Distraction is Key: Forbidden items such as a cellphone or remote control could lend you extra seconds of stillness when you are trying to change a busy baby’s diaper. Keep some board books at the changing station that aren’t books he/she reads every day, they will be new and could keep attention diverted just long enough for you to fasten the diaper. Sing songs, laugh, be silly. We moved the musical mobile to the changing table when our little one started being too busy to sit still.
The easiest cloth diapers to use on busy toddlers:
BumGenius! 3.0 pocket diapers: The sides are stretchy to prevent diaper droop and move with baby when bending and cruising. The size adjusts to fit wide weight ranges and body shapes. Once the insert is stuffed in, it goes on in a flash with velcro closure.

Thirsties Duo Diaper: Has leg gussets to help diaper stay put while baby is moving and velcro closure for quick on and off.

Flip by Cotton Babies: Also has stretchy sides like the bumGenius! 3.0, but uses snaps closure. Snap closure will hold up longer and get you through toddlerhood and into potty training. Flip is better on the budget when you choose the stay dry insert option.
