Local Info

Gainesville Locals

I love my local customers. I feel like I’ve made a lot of good friends over the years, and met a lot of really great moms and kids. You get a little special treatment since you get to come by and shop in person!

Pick up your order
Pick up your order to save shipping charges. The easiest way to do this is to place an order online with a credit card or paypal and note during checkout that you would like to pick it up in person. The cart will automatically leave off shipping charges for pick-ups. I will contact you with directions if you’ve never been here.

Get honest advice, even about other brands
My primary goal is to help people who want to cloth diaper and make it easier. Not selling lots of diapers. So if you have questions about a different brand, want to know where you might find something I don’t carry, or you find something at a consignment shop and want an opinion, email! I am glad that there are so many choices out there and we’re trying them all. I just want to help you cloth diaper.

Make special orders

My focus is to carry lower-cost diapers, which leaves a lot of very nice but more expensive options out. If you are interested in other diapers (Cottonbabies’ bamboo fitteds, Swaddlebees organic velour, Happy Heinys prints for example), I will order these things for you or help direct you to a reputable retailer who carries what you are looking for.

Visit our home
It’s nice to be able to touch and see these diapers before buying. Make an appointment with us and we will show you the different types of diapers we carry, talk about laundry, and answer any concerns you may have. If your baby is with you, you can even try them on. Please email to make an appointment. Our hours are 9:00AM-1:00PM Monday through Friday.

Meet with other Cloth Moms
If you feel like you need some support, a mom’s group, other cloth diapering moms - we can usually point you in the right direction. Even though my children are growing out of these groups, I always have some idea of where support and comeraderie can be found just from speaking to my customers and might be able to point you to an active group that supports cloth diapering. I try to list them below, but always ask. (Right now the Gainesville Attachment Parenting group is very active.)

Find other Gainesville resources

I don’t intend for this to become an exhaustive list of cool parenting resources in Gainesville, but if you have a link or information that you think might be helpful to local moms, I’d be happy to list it here. Here are a few things that you Gainesville mums may find useful:

Healthy Beginnings
Angela Monk, owner of Healthy Beginnings, is a lactation consultant and delightful woman who rents hospital-grade pumps and delivers them to you at home or in the hospital.
Call Angela at 352-262-5619, email her at bananafudge2002@yahoo.com,
and visit her web site at www.healthybeginningsusa.com.

La Leche League
To get the most current information, go to Florida’s web site at
http://www.lllusa.org/FL/groups/ne/index.html
Once you find Gainesville’s page, use the links on the left to find meeting times and contact numbers for the leaders.

Wednesday Farmer’s Market
This seems to be a sort of informal meeting place where parents who practice natural parenting “end up” and our kids play together. Come to the farmer’s market every Wednesday and support local families and let the kids eat pumpkin muffins as big as their heads! Every Wednesday from 4-7 in front of the Hippodrome Theater.

Soaps by Denise/Baby Bits
Gainesville mom Denise Prodigo-Hermann was a registrant at my site when she was expecting her twin boys. After their birth, this soap-maker developed “Baby Bits”, little cubes of glycerin soap infused with kind-to-the-skin herbs, which melt in water to create a heavenly-smelling wipes solution for cloth wipes. Her incredible marketing skills, plus a great product launched Baby Bits into a top spot among diapering accessories all over the country! You can buy Baby Bits here at my site (and many others), but check out her other soaps at www.soapsbydenise.com. (That’s one of her boys in orange in the photo above.)

Gainesville Attached Parents
Jennifer Slatton, mom of 4 (and author of an eventually-to-be-released book on attachment parenting), heads a really great environment for moms. This attachment parenting group currently meets at Jennifer’s house once a month to discuss topics related to attachment parenting (though the group may soon outgrow her living room). Visit http://groups.yahoo.com/group/gainesville_attachment_parents
for more information and to join the yahoo group to be notified of meeting topics and times and to join discussion relevant to parenting naturally in Gainesville.
